Snowdonia Holiday Cottage in The Country?

 Coed y Brenin

Our Relaxing Farm Cottage

A great place to start each day, whatever you enjoy doing, from early spring to late winter.

Beudy Penarddwnion Fawr has been in the same family for more than 65 years. We are a working familly farm and Beudy Penarddwnion Fawr, a barn conversion, is now a country cottage that we rent out as a holiday home.

Come and enjoy this beautiful part of North Wales and enjoy comfortable self-catering accommodation in a delightful barn convertion. A warm welcome, well planned accommodation and a comfortable stay awaits you.

Being just 5 miles north of Dolgellau, it is ideally situated to take advantage of what the area has to offer, and is set in a quiet rural location within the farm with stunning views. It lies within a region designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Snowdonia Holiday Cottage MapThere are many beaches within easy travelling distance, some with vast strands of golden sands and great surf, and others with tiny fishing villages and coves just waiting to be explored.

Penarddwnion Fawr is a busy working farm with beef cattle, lambs and free-range chickens; we also have an 'adopted deer' which sometimes thinks he's just the same as the rams whose company he seems to enjoy.

From our free-range chickens we supply eggs to many buinesses and restaurants in the area. We have several hundred birds roaming free in the area. Eggs are provided in the complementary welcome package which comes free to all of our visiotors.

Consider Some of The Things You Can Do in Snowdonia

  • Visit one of the many miniature railways in the area. The Ffestiniog railway and the Welsh Highland railways are close by.
  • Take a day or two out of your schedule to see some of our historic castles. Conway, Caernarfon and Beaumaris are all fine examples and are well worth a visit.
  • Think about one of the many family activities you could share with the children.
  • How about sharing in the history of Wales and check out our museums and galleries.
  • We have a long and varied history; our culture and heritage can be seen in abundance throughout North Wales. Visit the Copper Mines or Portmeirion in nearby Pothmadog.
  • If it's adventure that 'rings your bell' we have lots on offer and there's more than enough to fill up your time here.
  • Snowdonia attracts thousands of bird-watchers and animal lovers to the region every year. It's because there is a manificent collection of birds in the area and some other wonderful animals as well.
  • As you may imagine, Wales has its fair share of magnificent homes and gardens and some of them have been willed to the National Trust. There's a lot to see and enjoy.
  • If you enjoy the 'arts and crafts' world, there is plenty for you to see. But be sure to have plenty of money with you; if you're anything like us, you'll be very tempted.
  • Wrexham recently opened its long awaited shopping centre. For decades most people in the region had to travel to nearby Chester, which is fabulous, for their serious shopping sprees.

Snowdonia Holiday CottageThe area boasts an abundance of wildlife, wild plants and flowers, and if you enjoy walking, there are lots of tracks and footpaths radiating out from the farm, joining up to many other footpaths in the area.

The farm is on the Bala to Dolgellau road, which leads to the magnificent Mawddach Valley; the estuary is on the main migratory path for visiting and sometimes rare birds.

This makes it an ideal location for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers.

There are two nature trails to help you get the most out of the RSPB's two reserves in the valley. They are set in wood and scrubland, and are home to a variety of birds.

The two reserves in the Mawddach Valley are Arthog and Coed Garth Gell. Coed Garth Gell offers superb scenery and beautiful walks through oak woodland. Birds to be seen in the spring include pied flycatchers, diffrent kinds of warblers, including the wood warbler, reed buntings and redstarts. Water rails can be seen at Arthog. Ravens and buzzards are also present throughout the year.

Penarddwnion Fawr is located within the Snowdonia National Park; one of the eleven National Parks of England and Wales, it is the second largest after the Lake District. Designated in 1951, the Snowdonia National Park Authority celebrated 50 years as a protected landscape in 2001.

Snowdonia Holiday CottageThe National Park covers 823 square miles of some of the most beautiful and unspoilt countryside in the whole of the UK.

Unlike "wild" National Parks elsewhere in the world, Snowdonia is home to just over 26,000 people, who live and work in its towns, villages and on its hill farms like us, the owners of Penarddwnion Fawr farm.

An estimated 6-10 million visitor days are spent every year enjoying a wide range of leisure activities in Snowdonia. This web site will tell you a little about Snowdonia and all it has to offer.

There are many ancient sites nearby, including Harlech Castle and Caernarfon Castle all steeped in Celtic history.

If you are coming to the Snowdonia National Park, you couldn't make a better choice of accommodation, but wherever you choose for your self catering destination, we wish you a happy stay, and an enjoyable holiday or short break .

If you decide to stay with us, we promise you a very hearty, warm Welsh welcome. Here's looking forward to seeing you; have a safe and enjoyable visit!
